Controlling Obesity

Obesity is a condition where there is excess amount of fat in our body. Any Individual with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or higher is considered as Obese. Being Obese may lead to serious health problems like diabetes or heart diseases and cause premature death. Studies show that US tops the list of obesity among the developed countries.

Causes of Obesity

Obesity may be caused due to various factors. The main cause is because of eating excessive foods (high-calories) with less physical activity. The other causes are listed below:

  1. Genetic/ Hereditary factors
  2. Illness like Hypothyroidism and Cushing's Syndrome
  3. Certain Medications like Anti-depressants
  4. Lack of proper Sleep

Complications of Obesity

If obesity is uncontrolled or untreated, it may lead to various health problems that can drastically affect one's lifestyle and sometimes also lead to fatality. Some of the common health problems which are caused due to obesity are listed below:

  1. High Blood Pressure
  2. Type 2 Diabetes
  3. Cardiac diseases
  4. Cancer
  5. Infertility in Females
  6. Respiratory problems
  7. Osteoarthritis
  8. Gall bladder disease

How to control Obesity

Controlling obesity is neither an easy nor a difficult task. To start up the process, you need to build confidence and stick to a plan and set goals accordingly.

Change in Food habits

To reduce your body weight or to control obesity, you have to adhere to a dieting plan. You will have to put aside those high-calorie foods and foods rich in fatty acids. You can include green vegetables and fruits in your regular diet and consume adequate water (8 glasses) daily. You can also consult a dietitian for a suitable diet to control obesity.

Physical Exercises

Physical Exercises are a must for controlling weight and obesity. It helps to burn the excess fat in our body and to stay healthy. Jogging, Cycling, Walking and Swimming are some of the simple exercises that would come handy to reduce obesity. They not only help to reduce weight but also to strengthen our muscles and for proper functioning of our body organs.

There are various weight loss pills that can help us to reduce our body weight. Before buying these pills we should consult our Doctor to make sure it would be suitable for our health condition. It is advisable to burn the excess fat in our body through natural means like dieting and physical exercises instead of pills as they may have side-effects in the longer run.
